Each one was filled with so much wisdom I can not wait for it to launch in early February. Jake and Diana will guide us through 8 different ways to engage with God. Another year and what a year it was. These friends, we all met in our thirties at Mariners. We have celebrated, mourned and cheered each other on through the ups and downs of life. So much of it has happened around a table. This year most of all I am grateful for how they carried me through with calls, prayers and just being present when things are hard. #friendships #birthdaywishes

Happy Birthday Rob!!!! On this first of many firsts facing us this fall I think of how proud Mom was of you and what a great dad you are. I won’t be helping her try to type a Facebook post that would have taken all day to do:) she would lose it, cry out “Cheri it took away my post” and we would start again.
I finally found the courage to crack open the boxes of photos to find some new gems to share from our childhood.
I’m sacrificing my own vanity to include the poolside shot from one of your first vacations and the start of your love off handing out by the pool. Love you and hope you have a wonderful day!

How could I miss #nationaldogday My Max is quite the character. Some might say Mischievous Max is a better name! He has mad skills like opening drawers and getting things off tables. Just yesterday he got himself locked in a room. He is extremely expressive and can tell you exactly how he feels.

I didn’t grow up with dogs…I was afraid of them for most of my childhood. I missed out! There are so many benefits to having a dog.

Earlier this week I said goodbye as she leaves to start college. I know it’s only LA but she will be missed. She is off to follow her dreams and pursue her future.

She is talented, strong and creative. She is a loyal friend with a tribe of friends all off making their way and cheering each other on.

We have been baking, shopping and singing Taylor Swift songs as we drive around town since she was little. We try new restaurants and the latest Pinterest baking trends! In this very hard summer she spend more time than usual with me and reached out to see how I was doing. I cherished every sec knowing she was about to start college. LMU., her school, is rated the 4 th happiest college campus - once you visit your understand! It’s a beautiful place to take your first steps away from home!

We kicked off our 24 hours in Vegas with a visit to Martha Stewart’s new restaurant The Bedford at the Paris Hotel. It was the first night open to public and did not disappoint. Martha made a grand entrance and stopped to say hi. The food was delicious. Especially the Upside down lemon meringue. The decor is beautiful but understated!

5 years ago I said yes and returned to full time ministry. We went to my happy place, Lido Village- Malibu Farms for my 5 year lunch. Diana asked me what my highlights were. Here are 10 things I am carrying with me:

1. Watching people connect and find community. It truly is life changing.when people find their people and a safe place to explore faith.

2. Seeing people take their next steps on their spiritual journey. Watching people step out of their comfort zone and lead a small group. Seeing them come alive as they grow into their gifts and calling .

3. Learning to stay and not run when things were tough, trusting how clearly God had made a way bringing me here. Savoring the moments where prayers were answered.

4. Rediscovering the beauty of staying and putting down roots. Finding the courage to risk being vulnerable in church, a source of deep hurt and pain in my past- again because God had so clearly made a way. The healing those things have brought me. It has been redemptive.

5. The people I serve with on staff, our Build Community team,
and on my small groups team. They are passionate about meeting people where they are and extending grace because each of us needs it.

6. The people that showed up, cared and supported me all those years of caring for Mom. I started Next steps for the sole purpose of knowing some people in case Mom got sick and that step opened the door that would lead to a job on staff a year later. Greg, who had led Next Steps led Moms memorial. A full circle moment.

7. Friendships I formed that are life giving. Friends who have modeled celebrating and mourning together.

8. The opportunities to keep growing and be a life long learner.

9. Amazed by God’s continued provision.

10. Anticipation that the next five will be better than the last.

Grateful to Eastside! here’s to the next 5!

Also, thank you to Will, who invited me to lead again. It changed my life.

Olivia Liefeld graduated yesterday! She has such a strong tribe of friends that are about to disperse across the states to start college. Thankful she is staying in California to attend @loyolamarymount! It goes by in a blink of an eye! Looking forward to celebrating the grads tonight!

Happy 20th Birthday Chase Liefeld! I cherish all the times we have shared and adventures we went on each year. You always had a clear vision and pursued it! Excited to see what this year holds for you!

Twelve hours after mom died I was as on my way to

Twelve hours after mom died I was as on my way to Waco to celebrate Luke and his graduation from Baylor. Life is a tension of holding the hard and the good. We ended up the trip with a tour of uptown Dallas where he is starting as an advisor at KPMG. I couldn’t be prouder and excited for his future.

At the Hog House he made a group of lifelong friends and deep rooted community that will last a lifetime. They stocked these years full of memories!

The President of Baylor gave such a great commencement speech. The takeaway line - Suck it up, Be a leader & Have fun.

We had the opportunity to spend time at Magnolia Table and wander around the Silos. I saw magical fireflies at the HOG house party and met all the guys I sent cookie care packages to…they reminded me many of them will be in Dallas so they could continue!

We shared some sweet memories of Mom and I know she would be so proud of Luke, as she is of all her grandkids! One of the last times we FaceTimed with Luke he gave her a tour of his house. There was no place I would have rather been this weekend.

it’s a great week when I am blessed with two #auntadventures in one week. Less than 30 days until Luke graduates from Baylor. Time just zooms by as we get older we are always trying out new restaurants and this morning I took him to Toast in Brea. We ordered way too much food but it is a great breakfast spot! I could tell the waitress was trying to hurry us along, though we had not used up our 90 min of allotted time:) I was not daunted but when we walked out and saw 20 plus people standing there I understood!

Our latest adventure was to visit where she will attend college @loyolamarymount From robots roaming campus delivering things to beautiful views of Los Angeles and state of the art classrooms … life as a college student will be good! We then went to our happy place-anywhere by the water. This time Venice beach where we saw Piper and I had my first Cha Cha Matcha Latte. Dinner and a little shopping. How can she be graduating already! I better stock up on tissues for Lukes and then Livi’s graduations! At least she will be only an hour away! #auntadventures #daytrips

January was a month. I launched the year with a not so light case of Covid. Lost my taste and smell for 30 days but still rallied to bake Livi’s 18th bday cake. Launched small groups and finally celebrated with Livi last week. I brunched with Chase today but no pics were taken:( Livi and I decided Feb was really the start of our year!! Hoping it’s a bright one!

Really the miracle of 2022 was Mom didn’t get it. Lots to be thankful for as we lean into 22…

This year I set a goal of reading 2-3 books a month. I mix hardbooks with audio. These are four from January I highly recommend. Leaders are learners and writers are readers!

Soundtracks by @jonacuff is one of the best books on changing your mindset I have read. I’m going to order a physical copy but urge you to listen. The audio has bonus content.

Don’t Let The Enemy Have A Seat At Your Table by @louiegiglio is also a great listen with a ton of bonus content.

Live No Lies is a deep dive book that I find myself reading a few pages at a time and thinking about them. By @johnmarkcomer

Taste by @stanleytucci is another must listen to audio. His journey of food and growing up is delicious and will make you hungry.
