I created this pom pom garland after visiting the Grove in LA and seeing this fireplace in Anthropologie:
Being in job transition I didn’t think it was a wise purchase but I thought “how hard could it be?” Off to Michael’s, where I discovered a Clover Pom Pom Maker. Using a coupon I think it cost $4 for the pom pom maker and $8 for two bundles of yarn. Two hours on a Sunday afternoon and I had my own garland. I am still adding decorative touches to my fireplace but the garland went great with my silver garlands. Now I want to paint my fireplace blue!
I bought the packet with two sizes. Here is a tutorial I found that was helpful. Start by winding yarn around each side until there is no more curve but the bottom is even. Repeat on other side.
Put both sides into create a circle. Using sharp scissors cut down the middle of each side. This is the hardest part!
Repeat on the other side.
Take a piece of yarn about 6 inches long and pull around and up. Tug hard to make sure the yarn clicks through the machine.
Tie the yarn together. I made a knot.
Take off the pom pom maker. Trim the pom pom with your scissors.
Measure out your yarn to fit your fireplace. I measured from the bottom of one side, across and down the other. Twist the strands together. Tie your pom poms on to the yarn using the string that tied the pom pom together. I spaced mine out about every 10 inches. The one at Anthropologie has more pom poms, but you can do what you want.
