When you think of 2013 what comes to mind? Who do you want to be. Who inspires you? Is there one word that can capture your hopes and dreams for next year?
A few years ago I started the practice of choosing one word for the year. The first was fearless. I knew without a doubt that was my word but knew the year would require lots of courage. By April I had walked away from an unhealthy job situation, after staying way too long. I launched a radio show and started my freelance food writing career.
The next was Believe. I didn’t have as clear a vision for the word but it was the one I kept coming back to. It played out in different ways than I originally thought it would. I ended up being in many situations that required big faith that God was working, even when I couldn’t see.
It is funny how the words find you. I started out thinking it would be Thrive but then ended up with Flourish, until a few weeks ago. I was sitting in church and Rooted came to me. I felt like God was saying to me you need roots to flourish and thrive. So Rooted it is for 2013. There are several areas I am in need of putting roots down in so that I can thrive and live the life God has for me.
I am going to write a few posts on this over the next week and if you are interested I hope you will join me.
1. Pick your word – journal and pray about where
2. Sit with the word for a few days
3. Think about the next year and big vision goals. Rooted encompasses almost every aspect of my life. It isn’t a specific goal but how I want to feel, rooted in many areas. It has been two years of transition and I am looking forward to going deeper spiritually, relationshps, community and work.
Here are a few resources for selecting One Word:
So, what is your word going to be? Leave it in the comments and we will talk more about it this week!

beautifully written friend, I’m so excited for what God has in store for you this year…
Psalm 1
How blessed is the woman who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But her delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law she meditates day and night.
She will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever she does, she prospers.

That’s a good word. I thought mine was changes, but then God gave me intentional which will help bring those changes.
